This data analysis was based on dataset containing details on data jobs all over United States.
The goal of this analysis is to give the stake holders the information they need regarding the job market in the data industry. Job seekers will find this information extremely useful to guide them in their career growth.
All the analysis was done using Excel. Contained in the data set was:
- Salary – Average salary, minimum salary and maximum salary.
- Location of the job
- Job title
- Job description
- Tools used – Excel, Python, AWS, Spark and R
- Company Details – Age, revenue, company rating

Data Analysis – KPI (Key Performance Index)
- Identify state that has the highest number of jobs and the highest salary.
- Identify the highest paying sector.
- Identify the most desirable tools.
- Find out if there is a relationship between the salary paid and the company rating
- Establish if there is a relationship between the number of jobs and salary of those jobs with the revenue of the hiring company.
- Establish the relationship between jobs and salaries and company ownership.
Data Analysis – Data Wrangling
The data cleaning and data normalization for analysis in Excel using Power Query. The data did not contain too many errors and the mail work was to identify the necessary columns as well as what columns to add for the best analysis.
Added Columns:
- Company Rating – A company rating column was added rating the companies from 1 star to 5 star based on the data provided.
- Salary Range – A yearly salary range was created a follows:
- <50,000 – Poor Pay
- 50,000 – 69,000 – Average Pay
- 70,000-99,000 – Great Pay
- 100,00-150,000 – High Pay
- 149,000 – 200,000 – Super Pay
- >200,000 – Executive Pay
Data Analysis – Finding and Conclusions
- The State with the highest number of jobs – California, Massachusetts and New York
- The State with the highest paying jobs – Illinois, California and Washington DC
- The highest paying sector – Insurance followed by IT and Business Services
- Salary range – from the data, we can conclude that data jobs are high paying with over 78% of the jobs paying an annual salary of $70,000 and above.
- The most desired tools/skills are Python Programming Language and Excel.
- Private companies are the biggest employers with an average annual salary of over $102,000
